Parental Involvement / Right to Know
The best thing parents can do to support their child(ren)’s academic achievement is get involved in their child(ren)’s schools and to take advantage of various Rights to Know. Parents have a right to know the extent of their child’s progress. This can be achieved by parent-teacher meetings and active involvement through homework assignments as well as reading and conversation with their child.
Federal Law requires that parents be notified at the beginning and/or when appropriate anytime during each year of their right to know the professional qualifications of their child’s teacher(s). Similarly, parents and families must also be notified when their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who has not met State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and/or subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.
